MARCH in and vote early

MARCH: when t
he Political season for 2018 really gets going. Early voting has begun and the last day to vote in

the 2018 Primaries is MARCH 20.
NWSOFA recommends that you do research, attend candidate forums no matter who is putting them on. ASK questions. Be informed. Find out who’s running and where they stand on the issues important to you, then take your NWSOFA hat off and V
olunteer as an individual to work on a campaign by phone banking,
Volunteering to canvass,
Volunteering to MARCH!
Volunteer as an individual, NOW, to get the word out for progressive candidates that support our issues!

NWSOFA will be MARCHING to keep the focus on the issues:
ACA Healthcare reform, Climate Change, Minimum Wage, Gun Violence Prevention, Equal Pay for Equal Work for Women, Immigration Reform,
Marriage Equality,
and our new 2018 initiatives on “Voters Rights and Redistricting” and “Getting money out of Politics” .. these can not be ignored.. that’s our calling.  But the candidates and the campaigns have to happen at the political party level .. so take that NWSOFA hat off and start gearing up as a concerned citizen .. join the campaigns of your choice and help get those candidates who believe in your issues get elected.

Together NWSOFA, You and the Political Parties and Candidates, are the front line of the battle.. in the streets and in the offices of the local, state and national Legislatures.  We are not weak as long as our voices are together and our commitment to our issues resolute.

Let’s get the best candidates we can for the General election in November.
Working separately (NWSOFA vs Elections) on campaigns, yet working together on issues, we can and will create progressive change for the social issues that we (NWSOFA) believe in.
MARCH TOGETHER and we can, and will, create progressive change.
Sara & Bill

Faith in Place One Earth Film Festival “Straws”
SATURDAY MARCH 10
St. Mary’s Episcopal Church,
Park Ridge

RESOURCE FAIR 6 PM — FILM AT 7 PM

It’s time to ditch your straw. With colorful animation and segments narrated by Oscar winner Tim Robbins, this award-winning, 32-minute film explains the problems stemming from plastic pollution and empowers you to be part of the solution. Americans use once and then toss an estimated 500 million straws every day. Ocean Conservancy ranks plastic straws as the fifth most common items on beaches. They also wind up in landfills, litter streets and add to the estimated 8.5 metric tons of plastic debris in oceans annually.
Teens and young adults encouraged to attend.
Come for a 6 p.m. Resource Fair, where you can learn tips and tricks for healthier, planet-friendly living. After the film, engage in a conversation with Tim Milburn, Park Ridge’s Community Health Commissioner; Debra Kutska, Sustainability Specialist of Oakton Community College; Nan Parson of Straws Literally Upon Request Policy (SLURP); as well as members of the League of Women Voters of Lake Michigan Region; and Friends of the Chicago River. Plus, hear which Park Ridge restaurants participate in SLURP, and make a no-straw pledge. Facilitator: Sue Crothers of the River Forest Sustainability Commission and Young Filmmakers Contest Founding Director.
Doors open 30 minutes before start time. Arrive early to avoid lines and get best seats.

FISCAL

Monday March 12 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Schaumburg Library

130 Roselle Road
Schaumburg, IL
Come join us for a discussion of the fiscal and economic issues facing Illinois and the U.S. We will do our normal update of the U.S. economy and budget situation, i.e. the current FY 2018 federal government is operating on a Continuing Resolution that expires March 23rd. In addition, we will do a deeper dive into the Illinois economy and budget situation.
Illinois operates on fiscal years (FY) from July 1 to June 30. Governor Rauner has submitted his FY 2019 budget and the legislature has just begun hearings on appropriations. This spring promises to be another contentious one in the legislature regarding budget negotiation.
We will present a recent history of the Illinois economic and fiscal situation, as well as discuss some recommendations for next year’s (FY 2019) budget. We will also give a status on the current budget negotiations to the extent they are known.
Bring your Questions for Karl Faulstich and Dave Doney, our Fiscal Co-Leads. Come join us for some exciting discussions.
Then come join us for continued discussions at Lou Malnati’s after 9:30 pm. While OFA may not be political, we can discuss the politics of what is happening now at Lou’s.
As we discussed, this is the smaller room. Put the event in the March newsletter, but based on signups we may not want to do many additional email blasts unless we get set up to do this as a webinar.
