Republicans derailed the package last week. This is theirs to fix.
A recap: The fragile budget compromise in the Senate, which includes a dozen bills strung together and an income tax hike, collapsed when Republican senators backed away. They abandoned their leader, Sen. Christine Radogno, who had negotiated the compromise with Senate President John Cullerton.
Rauner, along with the right-leaning Illinois Policy Institute and its allies who want more pro-business, pro-growth reforms in the deal, began pressing to stall it.
- David Doney is planning to take a look back at the Obama presidency and an initial look at its economic legacy. I am looking forward to this presentation / discussion.
- David and I are also planning to lead a discussion on the status of the Republicans’ ACA repeal and replace efforts.
NWSOFA March Fiscal and Economic Issues Meeting(Economic Opportunity — Action Event)Come get the facts about the economic recovery nationally and the status of ongoing appropriations challenges at both the state and national level.
We have added about 2.3 million jobs nationally in the last 12 months (through January). In January the (U-3) unemployment rate was at 4.8%, while the U-6 rate was 9.4%. While the U-6 rate is down from a high of 17.1% during the downturn, this rate is still higher than the 8.4% in the fall of 2007 before the Great Recession of December 2007 to June 2009.
Illinois is now operating without appropriations since December 2016. The jobs report for Illinois shows job gains for 2016 through December of 28,400, down from 51,400 in 2015 and 88,000 in 2014.
