NWSOFA Indivisible Partner Event: Palatine Cool Cities Meeting
November 5, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Our next meeting will be Tuesday, Nov. 5, 7 pm at the Palatine Village Hall — hope to see you there! Note: This time we will be in Meeting Room B, the larger room upstairs.
We had a great meeting in September, featuring a presentation by Sierra Club member Peter Chung on the proposed Illinois Clean Energy Jobs Act, whose goal is to make Illinois 100% renewable energy by 2050. Calls to Governor Pritzker, your state representative (Tom Morrison for many of us) and State Senator Ann Gillespie in support of the bill would be very helpful! Let me know if you want a copy of Peter’s presentation; I will send it to you.
Governor Pritzker: 855-980-5638
Ann Gillespie: 847-749-1880
Tom Morrison: 847-202-6584
Also at the meeting was Palatine Councilman Greg Solberg, who was very supportive of our group and wanted to learn more about the environmental issues we are active with. I asked him to check on where the Village stands with the adoption of curbside textile recycling, which has been adopted by the villages of Hoffman Estates and Schaumburg.
On the good news front, it does appear that the Village of Palatine is working toward Solsmart designation! SolSmart recognizes cities, counties, and regional organizations for making it faster, easier, and more affordable to go solar. (Interesting that Mayor Schwantz did not mention this when we met with him this summer.)
With your help, we are slowly making progress! Thanks to all.
