NWSOFA January Fiscal and Economic Issues Team ZOOM

The below information has not been updated from the December meeting, but will be before we meet in January.
I wanted to let everyone know that the videos from the October meeting are out (links below). Plus the first estimate of 3rd quarter real GDP growth is 4.9%; second estimate is 5.2% annualized growth rate. Combined with +199,000 jobs added in November, things are looking pretty good.
The NWSOFA Fiscal and Economic Issues group will meet on Monday, December 18th at 8 pm. The Zoom room will open by 7:50 pm. Come join us, catch up on this year’s economic news and share your thoughts.
Mostly good news in recent economic data – it looks like we are heading for a soft landing:
– the debt ceiling increased until 2025, but credit rating lowered because we came close to not raising it
– nonfarm payrolls increased by 199,000 in November
– the unemployment rate was 3.7% in November
– The twelve month CPI has declined from 9.1% last June (2022) to 3.2% in October 2023. Twelve month PCE inflation was at 3.0% in October 2023

David and Karl will be updating the fiscal and economic data over the next two weeks. Come discuss the current state of the US economy.
Bottom line is that the data through November show a growing economy that is still strong. Potential headwinds include a future government shutdown, and the resumption of student loan payments.
On Monday, December 18th, David and Karl will try to explain what this all means.
