NWSOFA October 17th Fiscal and Economic Issues Meeting

October 17, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Lots to talk about this Tuesday:
  • job losses in September – probably an anomaly due to the hurricanes
  • increased FY 2017 budget deficit – $109 billion higher than forecast in January
  • Funding for hurricanes and other natural disasters and their effect on budgets for FY 2017 and 2018
  • Trump orders affecting ACA this week
    • Ending cost sharing subsidies – as previously discussed, this counter intuitively INCREASES the deficit
    • Order allowing sale of cheaper plans with fewer benefits
  • Congressional budget resolutions – Separate House and Senate resolutions, then joint budget resolution, then appropriations for FY 2018
    • proposed tax changes – deeper dive on the tax proposals this month
    • proposed spending changes
Attached are current versions of some of the material we plan to go over on Tuesday, although David and I are changing things daily to try and keep up with the news cycle.
Lots of room in the Adult Classroom at the Schaumburg Public Library, so come join us this Tuesday at 7 pm,
130 South Roselle Road
Schaumburg, IL 60193
I anticipate a lively discussion of the Republicans’ tax cut proposals and all the other recent news.  Bring your articles and other topics. Come join us for some exciting discussions.

Then come join us for continued discussions at Lou Malnati’s after 9:30 pm. While OFA may not be political, we can discuss the politics of what is happening now at Lou’s.
