Want the Facts about the Economic Recovery?
Then Attend the Monthly Fiscal and Economic Issues Discussion Group Meeting and be amazed at what you discover.
We will have our standard update of the economy, both jobs and GDP. We will also continue our discussions of the economic recovery and policy issues that affect the recovery. The discussion will be based on the Bureau of Labor Statistics December report which was released this past Friday.
On Friday, the Labor Department reported that employers added another 252,000 workers to their payrolls in December, capping a year in which total employment rose by 2.95 million, the largest advance since 1999.
Typical Agenda based on the Decembers Economic, Jobs and Fiscal report:
Jobs Recovery – 2.95 million jobs added in last 12 months; more Americans working than before the recession.
353,000 jobs added in November revised up by 40,000 jobs
Unemployment rate: nationally at 5.6% in December down from 5.8% in November, the lowest rate since June 2008
GDP growth: Revised to 5.0 % in the 3rd quarter and 4.6% in 2nd quarter, up from minus 2.1% in 1st quarter. It appears that the negative 1st quarter result was just an anomaly, primarily due to the harsh winter in much of the country.
Budget Deficits – Historical and Projected: 2.8% of GDP in FY 2014, down from a high of 9.8%
