The summer heat is here and we at NWSOFA are turning on the summer FUN at the Annual NWSOFA Picnic and we’re turning up the HEAT on ‘GETTING OUT THE VOTE”.
So! Let’s together for another fantastic NWSOFA PICNIC to re-organize and re-energize and re-connect. How about Saturday the 18th at NOON at NWSOFA Picnic Headquarters, 4152 Terramere Ave Arlington Heights, IL? (bring a dish to share, please).
Then join us and the rest of OFA as we work hard to turn out voters for the 2018 election at the Barrington Canvass hosted every Saturday and Sunday in August. (see details below)
Oh, and don’t forget our regular meetings and partner events:
- Fiscal and Economics on the 14th,
- GVP on the 16th and
- Palatine Cool Cities on the 28th.
It should be a warm month as we flip some hotdogs on the 18th and work to “flip the 6th” every other Saturday and Sunday in August.
Join the NWSOFA Team as we protect the gains we made
over the last 8 years and move our Progressive social issues forward in 2018 .

The Congress we elect in November will decide the fate of the issues that are most important to Illinois families.
We have the opportunity to elect representatives who will push for progress on the future of our economy, the health care system, the longevity of the environment and gun violence prevention.
We are Organizing for ’18 to propel candidates to victory who will support their constituents’ needs and values — and Sean Casten is one such candidate. He is committed to the the voters of IL-06.
We have the chance to stand up for our communities this November, but we have to start now.
Get involved this weekend, and make your voice heard in the midterm elections.

Fiscal and Economic Issues August Meeting
with
Illinois House Candidate Mark Walker
Arlington Heights Memorial Library
500 N. Dunton
Arlington Heights, IL 60004
In August the Fiscal and Economic issues team will be back in Arlington Heights in 1/2 of the Hendrickson Room. Some topics of discussion anticipated for the national update include:
- July employment report – These monthly reports have been showing solid job growth, albeit slightly lower than before Trump became president
- Updated estimates of the current FY 2018 budget deficit and the forecast for next year – Deficits are up due to last year’s tax bill and increased spending
- Preliminary/initial estimate of 2nd quarter GDP growth – Republicans are hoping that this is a really BIG number to justify the increased deficit. Time will tell, as this number will be updated two more times by the end of September, and then continue to be updated for years as more economic data becomes available. The initially reported numbers tend to be revised up or down over the years.
David Doney will do a deeper dive into trade issues, i.e. what is happening and how it might affect economic growth.
Bill Davis and Sara Horan will give us more information on the electioneering that OFA is doing this fall.
Illinois House candidate Mark Walker will join us to talk about why he is running and take questions from the audience.
Of course after the meeting ends at 9:30 many of us will head three blocks south to Eddie’s (10 East Northwest Highway) for tacos, beer and more discussions.
Come join us August 14th in Arlington Heights.
