June’s Fiscal & Economic Discussion:”

Jobs Shoot Up, inflation Cools, Unemployment Holds Steady

“Insightful Economic Update & Discussion”

Catch up on this year’s US & IL economic news and share your thoughts

The NWSOFA Fiscal and Economic Issues group will meet on Tuesday, June 18th @7 pm. The Zoom room will open by 6:55 pm. Come join us, catch up on this year’s US & IL economic news and share your thoughts.

US Economy continues on it’s “Strong but not to Strong” Economic trend… Stock Market Agrees.. the Biden administration has “ 40 straight months” of continued positive / record jobs growth .. with wage gains exceeding the 4% inflation..

Think of the impact of nearly 16 million new jobs all contributing to SS and Medicare & unemployment compensation etc and not drawing down On unemployment payments…very positive impact!

Special new areas of discussion will continue in June:

1) Biden economy vs. Trump economy (pre Covid),2) Immigration contribution to economy 3) CBO latest 10-year forecast

Latest highlights … economic information to discuss at our June meeting:

* New jobs were +272,000 in May job growth, April was revised down -10,,000 and March revised down by -5,000 as reported in the June (May) BLS report

* New Unemployment rate holds @ 4% reported in the May BLS report

* Inflation cooled in May … CPI is lower 3.3% over the last 12 months

* Average hourly earnings for all employees increases .4% … for last 12 months reported in the BLS = 4.1%

*The labor force participation rate held at 62.7 percent was in April

A good chance we will have a soft landing without a recession.

Come join us on Tuesday, June 18th to hear what we think may happen with the economy in 2024l

June is National Gun Violence Awareness Month

Maria Pike, will join us to tell us about her latest advocacy work

We have had some recent setbacks: These include:

*** the Supreme Court overturning the ban on bump stocks

*** the lack of action on GVP legislation

*** Karina’s Bill in the Illinois Spring 2024 legislative session.

All of these setbacks for GVP issues demonstrate the importance of voting for candidates who support gun violence prevention.

Come together – Stand together – Honor the 120 people who are killed every single day

We invite you to gather with us on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at 7:00 pm on Zoom as we come together – to stand together – to honor the more than 120 people who are shot and killed every single day in the United States where gun violence is now the leading cause of death for children and teens.

Speaker: Survivor and tireless gun violence prevention activist, Maria Pike

Our speaker and good friend, survivor and tireless gun violence prevention activist, Maria Pike, will join us to tell us about her latest advocacy work/Wear Orange experiences this month – including her participation in the Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund’s Annual Training Conference, Gun Sense University, held late last week/early this week in Washington, D.C.

And in honor of the 10th National Gun Violence Awareness Day on June 7th, we encourage you all to Wear Orange to our Zoom.
