“What’s Happening This Week in the Northwest Suburbs”
Week of May 25th – May 31st
NWSOFA Stand with Women Monthly Mtg.
Tuesday,
May 27th, 2014
7:00 – 9:00 PM
Arlington Heights Memorial Library
500 N. Dunton 2nd floor Conf Rm “I”
Arlington Heights, IL 60004
You are invited to our Stand with Women monthly meeting.
We will be exploring ways we can highlight issues that are unique to women but impact everyone.
We have been very pleased with the crucial benefits ACA has guaranteed women such as non-discriminatory rates for insurance, free preventive care and reproductive health care, no more exclusion from pre-existing conditions and much more.
Now our national focus is on economic issues including equal pay, raising the minimum wage, family leave, affordable child care. Bring your concerns and creativity and your friends for what is always an inspiring evening.
Illinois HB 2864 and SB 103 to fully fix the Illinois Portfolio Standard (RPS) for renewable energy will not pass in 2014
However there is a good chance an amended bill to partially fix the RPS can be passed in this spring General Assembly session which ends:
May 31.
We will make calls from our homes using a Virtual Phone Bank. Our calls will be to constituents of Illinois representatives and senators. These constituents will urge their representatives and senators to pass the amended bill.
Please email sarahoran2002@yahoo.com and augjas2@cs.com and we will get you set up to make calls using your computer and your phone.
On June 2 the EPA will release its proposed carbon rules for existing power plants
On June 2 the Sierra Club, OFA and other environmental organizations will be hosting a Flagship event at the Spertus Institute. The event will include a press conference and rally with some all star speakers followed by a viewing of the EPA proposed standards.
We will make calls from our homes using a Virtual Phone Bank. Our calls will be to individuals in the NW Suburbs and we will encourage these individuals to attend the EPA event at the Spertus Institute.

All our teams have numerous events that will enlighten and inspire you and yes, challenge you to make the effort to make a difference.

Have a Happy Memorial Day
It’s time to Act .. It Is Time To Get Involved
Over the years the American Citizens have lost their voices, believing that we can not make a difference. We have been beat down by the constant droning noise of the conservative right. This onslaught has made us like sheep .. afraid to express our views. Not anymore! OFA gives us back our voices and by working together we are making change one issue at a time. Together we can and will make a difference.
