“Minimum Wage Petition Drive”

Monday,

July 14, 2014

2:00 PM – 8:00 PM

 Locations:  Shifts: 2-4,4-6,6-8

 Arlington Heights & Schaumburg Libraries
& at the Palatine Train Station 7-8:30 am
Call Sara 847-372-5594

Women are currently the main breadwinner in a record-high 40 percent of households, but on everything from paid leave to fair pay, our workplace policies too often don’t reflect today’s realities.

Now our national focus is on economic issues including equal pay, raising the minimum wage, family leave, affordable child care. On Monday July 14th we will be petitioning the Arlington Heights and Schaumburg Libraries and gathering petitions at the Palatine Train Station.

We’ll be in the entrance to the Arlington Heights library from the garage by the elevators. Those going to the Schaumburg Library will be outside on the sidewalk leading to the main entrance but need to not be by the doors. Palatine Train Station-best time is during the morning commute from 7:00-8:30. Call Sara to get copies of the petition and more details. 847-372-5594 Shifts are 2-4,4-6,6-8

NWSOFA Climate Change

Presents an Educational Event

Thursday

June 17th, 2014

7:00 PM – 9:00 PM

First United Methodist Church

of Arlington Heights

   1903 East Euclid Avenue

This July 17 educational event, to be presented by Tim Pearson, Vice-President of NEXTCHEM Process Analyzers, Inc., will include a detailed explanation of why Molten Salt Reactors are superior to our present Light Water Reactors, and how they can be designed to use Thorium nuclear waste generated by U.S. wind/solar/ electric car manufacturing, keeping Green Manufacturing jobs in the U.S instead of remaining in China. These Molten Salt Reactors could also be designed to use High Level Nuclear Waste.
Thorium nuclear energy could also be part of the Illinois energy mix related to the EPA Carbon Pollution Standards released June 2. Each state, including Illinois, will be implementing a carbon system to reduce CO2 emissions 30% by 2030. Each state will individually be assigned flexible criteria to meet its goal. Illinois currently depends on nuclear energy, and good, bad or indifferent realistically it will be part of the Illinois energy mix. An alternative to uranium nuclear energy thorium nuclear energy has  a half-life of 300 years. It also cannot be converted for atomic bomb purposes, and in the case of a tsunami it would cake up. Long term Thorium could possibly become an important part of our zero carbon future.

Come to this event with an open mind and lots of questions, and be prepared to at least entertain the thought of Thorium as a source of electricity.

It’s time to Act .. It Is Time To Get Involved
Over the years the American Citizens have lost their voices, believing that we can not make a difference.  We have been beat down by the constant droning noise of the conservative right. This onslaught has made us like sheep .. afraid to express our views.  Not anymore!  OFA gives us back our voices and by working together we are making change one issue at a time. Together we can and will make a difference.
