Status of the economic recovery, including the August 2014 jobs report (July 2014 for IL data)
We are recovering, but we haven’t fully recovered yet. Labor Force up 1,896,000 since Jan 2008;
We set a new private sector jobs record in March and set a new total jobs record in May. Setting new records each month
IL’s recovery is lagging the national recovery.

142,000 jobs added in August; (ADP still had over 200,000 in August)
Unemployment rate nationally at 6.1% in August, and continues to trend down from its high of 10.0% in October 2009..
IL unemployment rate was 6.8% in July, down from 7.1% in June, down from 7.5% in May, 7.9% in April, 8.4% in March and 8.7% in Feb, down from 9.2% in July 2013 and trending down from its high of 11.4%
GDP growth was 4.2% in 2nd quarter, up from minus 2.1% in 1st quarter. It appears that the negative 1st quarter result was just an anomaly, primarily due to the harsh winter in much of the country. http://www.bea.gov/newsreleases/national/gdp/gdpnewsrelease.htm

You’ve worked hard to build momentum on everything from raising the minimum wage to immigration reform-now keep those issues front and center.

People’s Climate March in NYC
Tomorrow
There are 24 hours to go until the People’s Climate March, the biggest climate march in history. Here’s all the information you need for tomorrow with links to more if you want it:
Show up on Central Park West at 11 (and earlier if possible!) because at 11:30 we start marching. If you’re looking to march with a specific group of people, please show up much earlier (like 10:00 am). The most important thing is to stay flexible, the march is going to be great wherever you are! Click here for all the march details.
The march is arranged in six themes – find your people to march with here or just head up at 86th street and join an incredible mass of people demanding action on climate change.
At 12:58 we’re holding a moment of silence for those already lost to the climate crisis (you’ll see people linking hands overhead), and at 1:00 we’ll sound the climate alarm. Help us pull it off spectacularly by texting ALARM to 97779.
The march ends on 11th Avenue near 34th Street, where there will be a huge people’s block party to celebrate what we just did and talk about what we need to do next.
The whole world will be watching tomorrow as 125 heads of state come to New York – let’s make sure they can’t ignore the strength of the movement demanding action on climate change.
Don’t let this moment pass anyone by – forward this e-mail to your friends and family and let them know how easy it is to be part of history tomorrow
NWSOFA is a whole, diverse wonderful family of people who want to do more than talk about the social issues. We explore and dig deep on the facts and decide what actions we can take that can have an impact locally and nationally. NWSOFA members not only “talk the talk”, but we “walk the walk”.
All our teams have numerous events that will enlighten and inspire you and yes, challenge you to make the effort to make a difference.
We invite you to join us!

It’s time to Act .. It Is Time To Get Involved
Over the years the American Citizens have lost their voices, believing that we can not make a difference. We have been beat down by the constant droning noise of the conservative right. This onslaught has made us like sheep .. afraid to express our views. Not anymore! OFA gives us back our voices and by working together we are making change one issue at a time. Together we can and will make a difference.
Thank You to our NWSOFA Issue Leads in 2013 !!
