Discussion Group looking at the US and Illinois Jobs, GDP & Debt
WE Received the Facts about the Economic Recovery!
We had our standard update of the economy, both jobs and GDP. We also continued our discussions of the economic recovery and policy issues that affect the recovery. The discussion was based on the Bureau of Labor Statistics December report which was released this past Friday. Upon request “Deep Dives” into the numbers highlighted the evening.
On Friday, the Labor Department reported that employers added another 252,000 workers to their payrolls in December, capping a year in which total employment rose by 2.95 million, the largest advance since 1999.
Information Discussed @ the January Meeting included .. Decembers Economic, Jobs and Fiscal report and Other Current Events:
Jobs Recovery – 2.95 million jobs added in last 12 months; more Americans working than before the recession.
353,000 jobs added in November revised up by 40,000 jobs
Unemployment rate: nationally at 5.6% in December down from 5.8% in November, the lowest rate since June 2008
GDP growth: Revised to 5.0 % in the 3rd quarter and 4.6% in 2nd quarter, up from minus 2.1% in 1st quarter. It appears that the negative 1st quarter result was just an anomaly, primarily due to the harsh winter in much of the country.
Budget Deficits – Historical and Projected: 2.8% of GDP in FY 2014, down from a high of 9.8%

Over the years the American Citizens have lost their voices, believing that we can not make a difference. We have been beat down by the constant droning noise of the conservative right. This onslaught has made us like sheep .. afraid to express our views. Not anymore! OFA gives us back our voices and by working together we are making change one issue at a time. Together we can and will make a difference.
