On June 2nd, the White House will announce the first ever national limits on carbon pollution from existing power plants. This is big news for protecting our planet from climate disruption.
The Sierra Club, OFA and other organizations will be hosting a flagship event at the Spertus Institute in Chicago. We will be celebrating this historic moment with a press conference. We will be joined by local media outlets, and hear from VIP speakers including US Representative Robin Kelly.
We want you to come celebrate with us! The more folks to join the stronger the message it sends to Washington that people are ready to get serious about climate change. Please recruit your friends, family and neighbors, make a sign and join us at the rally.
Like the Blackhawks, We Understand the Emotional Ride:
Like the Chicago Blackhawks we at NWSOFA understand the emotional ride… one day your up and the next day your down. But every day we have to get back up and fight the good fight. We had the victory of passing the ACA Law, then the crushing weight when the website did not work and the euphoria of the recovery and success of the over 8,000,000 signups all with in 4 months.
NWSOFA’s June will be continuing fights for a cleaner world with the new EPA standards being revealed by the President tomorrow, June 2nd, observing the Comprehensive Immigration Senate Bill one year anniversary on June 28th as the House controlled Republicans have just sat on it and fighting the good fight for Raising the Minimum Wage.
An Emotional ride… YES IT IS… but like the Blackhawks each day we have to keep moving the puck forward and getting it in front of the net.. with the commitment to scoring! We will continue to be active on all fronts: meetings, rally’s, email and Social Media Campaign .. all designed to create awareness of our key progressive social issues with a focused and amplified voice. WE must take “ACTION” and make our voices be heard”, and that is exactly what we are doing!
Join us this month at one or more of our many chapter events and/or Issue meetings / events and add your voice and action. We invite you to especially stop at our June 17th Monthly Meeting, 6:30- 9:00 pm, at the Palatine Public Library as OFA National Head-Quarters Presents “Today’s Progressive Issues and How they are Shaping our Future”.
We invite your to share an evening with us as we shape our futures lives, Sara & Bill

Have you ever wanted to get your message out in today’s
Social Media world?
Have you ever wanted to get your message out about voting rights, climate change, or other progressive issues but aren’t quite sure how to?
Join us for NWSOFA “Tweets for the Summer” to learn about how to Tweet using Twitter. Our Social Media Lead, Kathy Carter, will be conducting the training for all abilities levels. Bring your WIFI enabled smart phone, tablet, or laptop.
Women are currently the main breadwinner in a record-high 40 percent of households, but on everything from paid leave to fair pay, our workplace policies too often don’t reflect today’s realities.
Join our house party hosted by NWSOFA supporters and be part of a conversation about the issues that affect women and working families, and how we can fight to change that. After the discussion, we’ll decide what action we can take by continuing our Raise the Minimum Wage Petition gathering.
Now our national focus is on economic issues including equal pay, raising the minimum wage, family leave, affordable child care. Bring your concerns and creativity and your friends for what is always an inspiring evening.
Mark the one year anniversary since the Senate passed their CIR bill
and one year that the house has failed to act.
One year 12-15 million Immigrants living in the shadows. The Senate passed it … and the House has been sitting on it.
Lets let John Boehner and Eric Cantor know how we feel… and put some pressure on them . The Press Event and Rally may take place downtown at Federal Plaza or in the Northwest Suburbs … location to be determined.
Come join us to get folks involved in the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Movement.
NWSOFA is a whole, diverse wonderful family of people who want to do more than talk about the social issues. We explore and dig deep on the facts and decide what actions we can take that can have an impact locally and nationally. NWSOFA members not only “talk the talk”, but we “walk the walk”.
All our teams have numerous events that will enlighten and inspire you and yes, challenge you to make the effort to make a difference.

It’s time to Act .. It Is Time To Get Involved
Over the years the American Citizens have lost their voices, believing that we can not make a difference. We have been beat down by the constant droning noise of the conservative right. This onslaught has made us like sheep .. afraid to express our views. Not anymore! OFA gives us back our voices and by working together we are making change one issue at a time. Together we can and will make a difference.
